Project Overview

Description

This Phase III construction engineering project is delivering infrastructure rehabilitation along IL-53 from US Route 12 (Rand Road) to IL-62 (Algonquin Road) in Cook County. The work includes full superstructure replacements at Rand Road and Algonquin Road, a full bridge replacement at Salt Creek, and bridge painting and rehabilitation at Industrial Avenue, with new retaining walls near Rand Road and Algonquin Road constructed to support grade conditions and enhance corridor stability. Roadway improvements include resurfacing IL-53 from I-90 to Salt Creek and from Rand Road to Lake-Cook Road, along with ramp resurfacing, upgraded pedestrian accommodations, drainage improvements, traffic signal modernization, lighting upgrades, new signage, and ITS enhancements.

Scope of Work

  • Full-time on-site inspection and documentation ensuring compliance with IDOT standards, project specifications, and federal requirements
  • Structures: SN 016-0377 (IL-53 at Salt Creek), SN 016-0378 and SN 016-2133 (IL-53 NB/SB at Algonquin Road), SN 016-0375 and SN 016-1120 (IL-53 at Industrial Avenue)
  • Layout verification, quantity measurement, and structural support for bridges and retaining walls
  • Continuous observation of traffic control, utilities, and drainage installation
  • Project records, pay estimates, change orders, and submittals managed in IDOT's CMMS system
  • Ongoing coordination with municipalities, emergency services, and nearby businesses to maintain access throughout the corridor
