Description of Project:

The I-55 South of I-80 to South of Weber Rd Bridge Preservation, Phase III Project involves critical construction and improvement efforts along I-55, focusing on the stretch from south of I-80 to south of Weber Rd. The primary components of the project encompass a range of bridge preservation activities to enhance the overall condition and longevity of the infrastructure.

 

HBM’s Scope:

HBM, in collaboration with GSG, is actively engaged in providing construction inspection services, overseeing a diverse set of tasks aimed at ensuring the successful implementation of the project. The scope of work includes:

  • Supervision of the construction workers – ensuring that they follow safety and work guidelines as stipulated in their contract.
  • Inspection of the material used for construction as per IDOT’s specifications.
  • Report directly the status of the project to the Resident Engineer
  • Maintain a daily record of the construction activities and progress by doing field measurements and/or visual inspections.
  • Routinely inspect the construction site to make sure all activities are going smoothly.
  • Assist in the preparation of upcoming tasks by coordinating with the contractors in order to ensure a smooth transition.

  1. Bridge Deck Enhancements:

    • Application of bridge deck latex concrete overlay to enhance durability and performance.
    • Replacement and repairs of bridge joints to address wear and tear.
    • Bridge deck grooving for improved skid resistance.

  2. Approach Slab and Pavement Upgrades:

    • Repair of approach slabs to ensure a smooth transition onto bridges.
    • Bridge deck scarification for surface preparation.

  3. HMA Shoulder Reconstruction:

    • Reconstruction of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) shoulders, necessitated by the implementation of the Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plan.

  4. Pavement Patching and Overlay:

    • Longitudinal joint removal and pavement patching to address pavement irregularities.
    • Application of Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA) Mix “F” for approach slab overlay and butt joint enhancement.
    • Full-depth patching into asphalt and concrete bases, ensuring structural integrity.

  5. Traffic Control and Marking:

    • Implementation of effective traffic control measures to facilitate construction activities.
    • Pavement marking to enhance road visibility and safety.

  6. Construction Inspection Services:

    • Supervision of construction workers to enforce safety and work guidelines outlined in the contract.
    • Inspection of materials used, ensuring compliance with IDOT specifications.
    • Reporting project status directly to the Resident Engineer.
    • Maintenance of a daily record of construction activities, including field measurements and visual inspections.
    • Routine inspections of the construction site to ensure smooth progress.
    • Coordination with contractors for upcoming tasks to facilitate seamless transitions.

HBM's assistance to GSG includes a comprehensive approach to project management, encompassing quality supervision, materials inspection, progress reporting, and proactive coordination with contractors. The aim is to ensure that the construction activities adhere to safety standards, project specifications, and established timelines, ultimately contributing to the successful completion of the Bridge Preservation project on I-55.
