Various Rehabilitation & Emergency Repair IL Tollway

 

Description of Work:

The project involved a multifaceted approach to rehabilitation and emergency repair work, addressing critical structures and interchange components across the Tollway network. Key aspects of the project are detailed below:

1. Emergency Bridge Inspection and Repair – Rote Road over I-90 Tollway (Bridge No. 723):

  • Structure: Four-span reinforced concrete deck on continuous PPC I-beams, supported by three piers and two reinforced concrete abutments.
  • Location: Rote Road over I-90 Tollway at Milepost 64.2.
  • Incident: Bridge closure on May 18th, 2010, due to vehicular impact in Span 3, causing damage to girders and the bridge structure.
  • Response: Detailed inspection, bridge rating, and submission of comprehensive contract plans, specifications, estimates, and design calculations for the repair of damaged sections.

2. Eola Road Interchange Retaining Wall at the Ronald Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88):

  • Design: Development of 1,150 feet of cast-in-place retaining wall for the new interchange at Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88) and Eola Road.
  • Interchange Components: Construction of 4 new ramps with electronic tolling (Ramps A-D), 6 detention basins, non-motorized path, control building/parking area, Ramp A retaining wall, storm sewer, signing, striping, landscaping, water main improvements, highway lighting, erosion control, and associated removal.
  • Wall Types: Soldier pile wall with C.I.P. panels and W24x94 piles, and vertical cantilever wall in the vicinity of the existing Eola Road Bridge.
  • HBM’s Role: Phase II analysis, design, structural final plans, special provisions, quantity calculations, specifications, and Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) for Ramp A retaining wall.

3. Farnsworth Ramp Plaza Monotube Design:

  • Structure: Steel monotube frame on two concrete drilled shaft foundations for I-Pass toll collection on the Farnsworth Ave ramp off I-88 Tollway.
  • HBM’s Role: Complete design of the Farnsworth monotube structure, including the submission of contract plans, design specifications, and cost estimates.
