The role
About this position
HBM Engineering Group is seeking a Bridge Engineer/Inspector to perform bridge inspections in accordance with NBIS procedures for Element Level and Routine Inspections throughout IDOT District One and District Two.
Responsibilities
What you'll do
- Assist IDOT's engineers, managers, and technicians in the daily work required to inspect structures throughout IDOT District One and District Two, and prepare reports documenting their condition and deficiencies.
- Perform bridge inspections in accordance with NBIS procedures for Element Level and Routine Inspections.
Qualifications
What you'll bring
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university (Master of Science degree in Structural Engineering is a plus)
- Must be Team Leader Certified in the State of Illinois (Illinois Professional Engineer (P.E.) license a plus)
- Must have completed FHWA Introduction to Element Level Bridge Inspection Training
- Must have completed FHWA Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges
- Minimum of 4+ years of bridge engineering experience in all elements of bridge designs and/or inspection
- Ability to climb and inspect various types of bridges, including wading in streams, and be comfortable working at heights for extended periods of time
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Experience with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and familiarity with their policies and procedures
- Proven record of work that is accurate and thorough
- Superior time management skills, a strong work ethic, and a desire to learn
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Ability to build strong relationships
- Ability to work effectively in a team and remote environment
